Root Canal Treatment

Maryport, cumbria

A root canal is a procedure that is used to treat infection at the centre of the tooth. Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. If the pulp becomes infected it may spread through the root canal system of the tooth eventually causing an abscess or infection.

The aim of root canal treatment is to clean and sterilise the canal to remove the bacteria which is the source of the infection. The pulp is then sealed up and the tooth is restored with a filling or a crown.
